Cáyoli Junior, AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TO RAISE AWARENESS AND CREATE VOCATIONS

Cáyoli Junior is the pedagogy and environmental awareness component of the program. The principle is simple: to protect well, you have to know well. And it is clear that coastal natural environments are often little or poorly known. In order to strengthen this knowledge, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes and the Local Education Authority of Guadeloupe have decided to develop together educational tools and projects adapted to the Caribbean islands.

A PROGRAM IN COLLABORATION WITH THE RECTORATE

In June 2017, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes inaugurated Cáyoli Junior by offering students from 5 middle school classes an art competition around the preservation of the oceans. A symbolic date was chosen for the award ceremony: June 8, World Oceans Day. During the award ceremony at Îlet Cochons, an emblematic site of Cáyoli, the Rector and the President of the Port’s Board of Directors signed an ambitious agreement. What is it purpose? Work hand in hand to create with teaching teams and students tools and projects to raise awareness about the protection of coastal ecosystems.

DEVELOP TOOLS ADAPTED TO CARIBBEAN ISLAND TERRITORIES

The first challenge is to show, know and understand the roles and functioning of marine environments. Initiatives already exist to provide knowledge in the form of fact sheets and booklets. Through this collaboration around Cáyoli Junior, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes and the Rectorate wish to propose complementary and innovative supports. An immersive film on the discovery of marine environments has been created for the Science Festival 2018. It provides students with a first approach to the underwater environment with a virtual situation to discover what happens under the surface! The film is to be discovered below. The principle: move your phone (your mouse for computer viewing) in order to see around you or read it from a virtual reality headset!

FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECTS WITH THE CLASSES

The 2017-2018 school years has enabled the establishment of common working bases with the teams of the Rectorate. The choice was made for immersive media and projects in which the students themselves will be actors. For this new school year, we will be able to launch the first participative projects. Stay tuned to the news of the program!
